Activation & Porting

Will my new service be ready to use when I receive my phone?

For security reasons, your new M2 SIM card will not be dispatched in an active state. To activate your M2 service, please call M2 Customer Service on 0800 M2 TALK (0800 62 8255).

Can I keep my existing mobile number when I join?

Yes. Mobile Number Portability enables you to keep your existing mobile phone number when changing from one service provider to another.

This is available regardless of whether your current service is pre-paid (you recharge your credit) or post-paid (you receive a monthly invoice)

You can specify the porting of your number as part of the online application process.

After I port a pre-paid number to M2, can I still access the unused credit on my previous service?

No. Once the porting of your number is complete, you will not be able to use your previous service, so please be mindful of this before you activate.

My existing mobile is currently under contract with another service provider. Can I still sign up?

You will not be prevented from porting your number to M2, however there may be penalty costs charged by your current provider if you terminate a fixed-term contract early.

We recommend that you check with your current service provider to determine if any charges will apply.

How long will it take to port my mobile phone number to M2?

When you call to activate your M2 service, you can opt to commence the port either immediately or at a specified date and time.

Once the porting process commences, it should typically complete within 24 hours, however this can vary depending on which network and service provider you're currently with.

Will there be a period of time during the porting process that I cannot use my mobile?

No. At the time your number cuts over to M2, you should be able to use your M2 SIM card.

When porting, how do I know when my new M2 SIM is ready for service?

When your number cuts over to M2, your old mobile service will cease working. When this occurs, simply insert your new M2 SIM and it should automatically connect to the Vodafone network.

What information is required to authorise a number port?

If you have an existing post-paid service with your current service provider, you will need to supply your account number during the online application. You can find this on the monthly invoice from your current provider.

If you have a pre-paid service connected to the Vodafone network, you will need to supply the SIM number, which is printed on your current SIM card.

If you have a pre-paid service connected to the Telecom network, you will need to provide the reference number of your mobile handset. This can usually be found beneath the battery and will be called either an ESN or MEID.

When I port my number to M2, will my phone contacts and voicemail messages also be transferred?

No, only your phone number will be ported. As M2 will issue you with a new SIM card and phone, we recommend that prior to porting your number, you record your phone contacts in a separate location.
